Geese & Ducks

These days there are a important pass of migrate birds towards the south, probably increased for low temperatures in northern Europe.
There are several formations of Geese flocks flying to the south.
The Ebro water reservoir is a rest area and sometimes wintering area of Ducks and Geese flocks.
So these days you can see flocks of ducks scattered throughout the reservoir, with special preference for more sheltered areas.
With the snow, the Geese have a little difficult to find food.
Most birds observed were geese and ducks, but we have also observed several flocks of Thrushes (Fieldfire, Redwing) and Finches (Chaffinch, Linnet, Hawfinch...) , typical of this season.

Money for nothing

The Capercaillie is one of the more threatened species of Spain.
A few hundreds birds survive in the Cantabrian cornice.
Again an economic investment to try to save this emblematic species.

Without a doubt, that million Euros will not be reversed in paralyzing projects of ski resorts, nor new infrastructures, although this is what possibly more it affects the loss of habitat of the capercaillie and the survival of this specie.

Egyptian Vultures and Lammergeier

Two news about the two more spectacular Iberian vultures.
This is the link to web page of WWF and the Biodiversity Foundation that allows us to see the migration of four Egyptian Vultures from the south of the province of Burgos -Spain- to the south of Mauritania - Africa.

The other news is about the Lammergeier.
After many years of that disappeared of the Cantabrian Mountains, now there are a reintroduction program in Picos de Europa.
The last news, about the released birds, they are good adapting to these mountains. Here.
We hope that, again, come back to fly on Cantabrian mountains.
In the province of Burgos the last Lammergeier that bred was in 1956 La Yecla and Ortigüela, Pancorbo in 1954 and Arlanza valley in 1976. (Gonzalez, D., Román, F, Fernandez, R., Lobo, J.L. 2006 Anuario Ornitológico de la provincia de Burgos. Vol.1)
At present every year they are several records of Lammergeier in Burgos, almost all juvenile birds in dispersion from the Pyrenees.
