Within the P.N. de las Hoces del Ebro y Rudrón Nature Reserve

Even with the intense heat of these summer days, we enjoyed with records of bird species most representative of the P.N. de las Hoces del Ebro y Rudrón Nature Reserve. The small rapids formed in parts of the river Ebro, we had the opportunity to observe some of the most typical bird of the river as Dipper, Common Sandpiper and Grey Wagtail families, while the riverside vegetation, Wrens, Warblers, Flycatchers .... Again the presence of birds of prey is very significant Griffon Vultures, Egyptian Vultures, Short-toed Eagles, Booted Eagles, Commom Buzzards, Black Kites ..., including spectacular views of the canyon of the Ebro a good numbers of House Martins, Crag Martins, Common Swifts and few Alpine Swift, beginning to form flocks before migration.
Among the more wooded areas Zamansas Valley was easy to distinguish the songs of Woodpeckers, Pipits, Thrushes…. In the meadows, Red-backed Shrikes, Starlings, Finches...
A total of 43 species with good some observations.

These days we are in what could be considered the real anticyclonic summer in the Iberian Peninsula, with blue skies and high temperatures in the middle of the day. Although luckily a light breeze allowed to enjoy a new birding tour in the Natural Park of the Ebro and Rudrón, and adjacent areas Bricia and Waterfowl Reserve of Ebro Reservoir. Recorded 53 species make the day has been very productive. Again, the raptors (7 species recorded) were especially abundant, albeit with significant absences like Short-toed Eagle. Good numbers for Stonechats, very different to that seen in the spring, where the Stonechats were virtually absent.

In this article, signed by the great ornithologist Ricard Gutiérrez, refers to species that can be observed in Spain, with a paragraph that says "Actually if we go to the field to observe often know more than fifty species in a day is good. View over 100 is something and to celebrate. Reaching a special occasion the 150 is epic. " Of the 363 species regularly observed in Spain, in one morning to observe 53 species means having registered 16%, which is a good number. Registration of 53 different species of birds, falls within the mean observation for a day of morning in the PN of the Ebro and Rudrón. If we make a special effort, as we did for SACRE programs, this figure can rise to more than 60 species, reaching more than 70 species if we invest a whole day of birding. Of course there are seasons in which it is easier to register a good number of birds, and summer is not exactly one of them.
Anyway a good birding day and of course we enjoying scenery and villages of Las Merindades really wonderful.

The return of Sand Martin.

Of the 177 bird species recorded in the Cañones del Ebro y Rudrón Natural Park, get to see in one day summer almost a third of them, it's a good day of birding. The tour inside the canyons allowed us to see many of the most common species of these habitats, mixed with species that use the small villages as breeding site. is curious to see how many of them are almost exclusively linked to the urban environment of the villages. As most striking species in this area was the appearance of a Wryneck in the garden of a house. The journey through the highest areas of the Natural Park we met again was the surprise of a kind not extensive, and that years ago had disappeared, the Sand Martin. A small colony had a breeding site in a small slope, with the passage of time and the growth of the vegetation of the upper slope, fell on the sandy area, prompting this colony disappeared. But this year, are back again, digging nests in a new slope, close to gone. And as in the past birding tours, warblers,redstarts, stonechats, buntings, finches and raptors, have been the protagonists.

Aguja Colipinta R7YRRB

 

Increíbles viajes a través de países y continentes, cruzando mares y océanos y despertando la admiración de aquel que quiera ver en estos viajes algo realmente extraordinario.
Las frías y malas condiciones climatológicas que se dieron el pasado mes de mayo en centroeuropa, dieron como resultado que muchas aves retrasasen su llegada a los lugares de reproducción, concentrándose en muchos puntos de la península Ibérica. Uno de estos lugares fue el Embalse del Ebro, donde se dieron concentraciones de algunas limícolas nunca antes registradas. Este fue el caso de las Agujas Colipintas, con registros de hasta 270 aves. Entre ellas se pudo observar una que portaba en ambas patas una combinación de anillas y banderas, elementos de anillamiento fundamentales para determinar sus pautas migratorias, así como otros datos que, en el caso de haber un programa de seguimiento en activo detrás, permite obtener datos que repercuten en la conservación de la especie. En este caso, Maarten Brugge, responsable del programa de seguimiento de esta Aguja Colipinta, me ha remitido el historial de registros de esta ave pudiendo ver sus desplazamientos, sus áreas de descanso invernal y de reproducción.

Por fin, parece que el tiempo empieza a estabilizarse y estar acorde con las fechas en que nos encontramos. Hemos tenido intensos días de lluvia y bajas temperaturas, y evidentemente esto se ve reflejado en el campo, sí, todo esta exuberante, de un verde intenso, pero cuando nos fijamos un poco más vemos que no para todos los habitantes del campo las cosas han ido bien. Las bajas temperaturas han bajado el volumen de insectos en el campo y consecuentemente se ve reducida la presencia de aves insectívoras. En transectos, donde en otros años por estas fechas se podía detectar la presencia de  varias parejas de Tarabillas Comunes, este año en ese mismo tramo, ninguna. Ausencia de Vencejos Comunes en muchas poblaciones y reducida presencia en los que sí hay. Pero bueno, aún así, después de una buena jornada de tiempo y observación de aves, conseguimos registrar hasta 56 especies, entre las observadas en el Parque Natural de los Cañones del Ebro y Rudrón y la Reserva de Aves del Embalse del Ebro, aunque este último, estando al 97% de capacidad no presenta en este momento buenos números de aves acuáticas. Hubo muy buenas observaciones de algunas especies con escenas de prospección de caza de  Águila Culebrera y Milano Negro. El paso cercano de dos Abejeros Europeos nos permitió ver algunas diferencias evidentes con el Busardo Ratonero. Espectacular los machos de Tarabilla Norteña y Alcaudón Dorsirrojo, este último relativamente presente en varias zonas, con contactos de hasta 8 ejemplares.
